The aim of the book High Performance Surface treatments It is to update information and provide tools for proper selection, preparation, dosage and execution of surface treatments.
It is complementary to the Statement of Road Book, strengthening and updating the concepts there discharges to raise the quality of surface treatments that are built in our country.
The book has 8 chapters covering the entire life cycle of a surface treatment. Includes innovative as penetration test ball, emulsions ordered by performance (Emulsion Performance Grade, EPG), calculations for evaporation rate emulsions, table selection of treatments and claim the concept of average minimum size (ALD) for design treatments.
Chapter 1: Evolution of gravillados.
Focused on the evolution of materials, equipment and embodiments of surface treatments. It includes history in Uruguay and a current comparison with the situation between our country and one of the leaders in the world in this technology, New Zealand.
Chapter 2: Introduction to the surface treatments.
Although single or double treatments are commonly known, there are a variety of alternatives depending on the application, the expected result and materials used warranting particular names for each technology.
Treatments presented here are mostly taken from the Australian and New Zealand experience. the novel locked multiple treatments are also presented, Bitafal patented technology in the US and Uruguay.
Chapter 3: Materials graveled.
It includes a detailed requirements both aggregates as binders used in surface treatments, detailing quality tests and proposed specifications. This chapter deepens specifically in the emulsions, their chemical and correct use.
Chapter 4: Selecting treatments
different ways of selecting surface treatments as traffic, maintainability, road safety criteria, surface condition and climate are presented. It is expected that the reader can, with the information you have available, select the best type of treatment, aggregate and binder to achieve longer life.
Chapter 5: Surface preparation.
The lifetime of treatment depends primarily on the quality of the surface on which it is supported. To do this, this chapter delves into the necessary quality of the base and the various previous repairs necessary to apply the treatment. It is including the importance of using stabilized and recycled binders and the synergy achieved with treatments to achieve high-quality pavements.
Chapter 7: Building and best practices.
Chapter 7: Building and best practices.
After selecting the type of treatment and the materials and surface prompt, proceed to the implementation according to the design made. This chapter describes the necessary equipment, the best practices for each stage of the implementation of the different treatments are presented as well as guidelines for proper calibration of equipment.
Chapter 8: Faults and repairs.
As in any activity, there may be premature failure and you must identify them know to solve the detected problem and to prevent it from happening in the future. In this chapter the most common failures of the treatments are presented as well as different alternatives for localized repairs or full width.
The book also contains a significant amount of attachments with novel assays presented in the same ways and calculating maximum temperature of pavements, binders according to performance grade, expected quality of bases and examples of design calculation.
