This Thursday 26 took place, at the headquarters of the Congress of Mayors, the first face-to-face sectoral work meeting after the health emergency was declared by covid -19. The meeting summoned, in addition to Alfie, the deputy director of the OPP, Benjamín Irazábal, the undersecretary of Transportation and Public Works, Juan José Olaizola, and the communal heads of the entire country.

In this context, Alfie explained that, due to the difficulties generated by the health emergency in the execution of works and calls for bids, it was necessary to make the allocation of resources more flexible in terms of investment and purchase of machinery. To do this, the funds to acquire it were increased and the percentage of the investment fund reduced. In 2021, the volume of maintenance and equipment purchase expenses will be increased from 30% to 50%, the remaining 50% will remain for investments, he detailed.

MTOP EXECUTED OVER USD 300 MILLION IN 2020

MTOP EXECUTED OVER USD 300 MILLION IN 2020

The Ministry of Transport and Public Works (MTOP) executed more than 86% of the budget it had assigned for the year 2020

This was stated by Minister José Luis Falero, who attended the Budget Committee integrated with the Treasury of the House of Representatives. The hierarch -accompanied by Undersecretary Juan José Olaizola and the rest of his team- was satisfied with the progress in the execution of works despite the health emergency. “The difficulty of the pandemic itself and the transition were concealed. There was a strong execution, for which we must thank the entire MTOP team and the companies that have been contracted to carry out the works, ”he said.

Likewise, the chief reiterated his commitment to increase the execution of works in the remainder of the five-year period to improve the state of the country's infrastructure. The MTOP seeks to tender a greater number of road works in order to reduce costs. "When there are tenders there is more competition between the companies and that generates savings for the administration that can be used in other works," he said.
