8m: women who make the way

Recognition and tribute day.

On the occasion of the 8M, in Bitafal we organize a day of recognition and tribute to the women who participate in the road industry. The call included the participation of 20 guests from Amigas companies, authorities of the Ministry of Transportation and Public Works and the Bitafal team in the activity that Traditionally organizes Magnolio Sala, where outstanding women from many different fields present their stories, in a framework of reflection, emotion and also of joy.

Subsequently, we share a lunch with our honoree at the Mission Restaurant, where we exchange about the participation of women in the construction sector, and especially in the road, where their presence increases every day, assuming significantly more important responsibilities and roles.

The good comments received once the day is completed, encourage us to reiterate it next year and surely convert it the forced event of the women of our sector.

We present our first sustainability report.

On April 29 in Bitafal we dressed as a party to present in society our first sustainability report, corresponding to 2024. The event was attended by the Minister of Environment Prof. Edgardo Ortuño, the Undersecretary of Transportation and Public Works Archite Academia and much of the Bitafal team, we share a day of joy and reflection on the production of sustainable asphalt and the care of the environment.

The Ortuño Minister stressed the importance of incorporating the concepts of sustainability in the industrial sector and valued cooperation between the public and the private, in the face of a responsible management of natural resources, especially of water.

For his part, our general director Santiago Kröger referred to the great effort that this first report represented for BitaFal defined it as "a milestone, a turning point that allows us to see where we are unemployed and what actions we must take in the field of sustainability for the future."

The report was prepared jointly by a multidisciplinary team of BitaFal and the Consultant Urban Elements. It analyzes in depth the environmental, social and economic aspects of all our operations. A panel composed of the Head of Security, Quality and Sustainability of BitaFal Ana Laura Hernández, the Global Pact Valentina Pactine Manager and the representative of the Consultant Urban Elements Nicolás Taranto, deepened about the most relevant aspects of the report, placing special emphasis on the carbon footprint and the water footprint of the production of asphalt.

The closure of the meeting had a fun knowledge dynamic about sustainability and subsequently a agape was shared, a moment for the encounter and exchange between all attendees.

A special highlight deserves the musical introduction of the meeting as Flashmob, in charge of the Lea Bensessón voice school, where a group of women entered singing to our Spanish patio, interpreting a medley of songs linked to the roads and the environment.

INAUGURATION ROUTE 6

INAUGURATION ROUTE 6

One of the most important sections of Route 6 reconstruction opened on February 19.

With the presence of the President of the Republic, Luis Lacalle Pou, the minister, José Luis Falero, the director of Roads, Hernán Ciganda and an important crowd that approached the Bypass of San Ramón, 78 km of Route 6 of the PPP Route 6 of the PPP Vial Circuit 6 and 17 km of contract of the CVC company were inaugurated.

The project included the renewal and reinforcement of the structure of the road as well as corrections of the planialtimetry and improvements in road safety. It also involved the construction of seven bridges and the intervention of nine other structures through widening and reinforcement, totaling 16 improved structures. In addition, 15 traffic lights were implemented and 14 roundabouts were built and modernized to optimize safety and vehicular flow. The works were executed within 27 months since November 2023 and represented an investment of US $ 130 million.

One of the differentials in sustainability and innovation of the work is the incorporation of recycled pavement technology with foaming asphalt both in the plant and on site and then with a rolling layer with modified asphalt type PG 70-28 that the Cuchilla Grande consortium entrusted Bitafal as a supplier.

One of the outstanding works of the project was the construction of a bypass in San Ramón, which included a superior passage on the railroad at its intersection with Route 6 and three new bridges over the Santa Lucía River and its branches. Its non -flood design improves connectivity and road safety. This infrastructure is connected to Route 6 at both ends by illuminated roundabouts, as well as at its intersection with Route 12, ensuring a more efficient circulation. The total investment of these works amounted to $ 24 million.

The 17 km stretch between Km 90.500 and Km 108.060 of Route 6, had platform widen, applying a cemented rough layer of 22 cm thick in a width of 10 m and an asphalt mixture layer 7 cm thick in 9 m wide. Road signage was also renewed, both horizontal and vertical. These improvements were completed in 10 months with an investment of $ 200 million.

We thank the CVC company and the Cuchilla Grande consortium for the trust they have given us in the supply of asphalt products for said work.

Warm mixtures with modified asphalt AM3 and AM2 Max show important technical and environmental benefits

Two new test sections using AM3 Max and AM2 Max modified asphalt were carried out during the month of December showing excellent results.

On the one hand, a stretch of rolling folder was made with modified AM3 Max asphalt in the F10 discontinuous mixture that is being applied in the duplication of Route 9 by the Traxpalco company. The results were a temperature decrease of 40 ° C with an important savings of fuel oil, reduction of fumes and gases in more than 10 times and a compaction just like in the hot mixture.

With AM2 Max modified asphalt, more than 500 mixture ton were made in the folder applied in the construction of Route 6 by the CVC company with equally encouraging results. A 40 ° C reduction, improvements in air quality and safety for operators and better densification of the mixture as main results obtained.

The benefits are more than proven in the various trial sections carried out in our country. More works are approaching in the coming months confirming that this technology is beginning to consolidate in Uruguay.

New Road Pliego

New Road Pliego

5 chapters that review much of road construction techniques in our country are already available.

On December 9, the Minister of the Minister, José Luis Falero, and the Director of Roads, Hernán Ciganda, the new sections of the statement of roads that have been updated:

Section 4 - Asphalt risks
Section 5 - Asphalt treatments
Section 6 - Folders and hot asphalt mixtures
Section 7 - Activities prior to flexible pavement rehabilitation
Section 8 - Concrete pavements

Within the framework of an institutional strengthening process in which the National Road Directorate has been working together with the IDB, the update of the specifications for the construction of bridges and roads was updated, a document dating from 1989, regulated the following year in Decree Nº9/990, and modified in the years 2001 and 2003.

All this documentation determines the technical specifications that govern all the works of the DNV and includes: the project, the construction and maintenance of the works, and the materials to be used.

The update was carried out with the support of specialist consultants in each thematic area, who evaluated and analyzed the proposals to advise the DNV on the elaboration of the specifications. The documents were prepared section by section according to the area, and the drafts were made available to the different actors in the road sector, to receive suggestions or modification proposals.

New biomass boiler transforms the energy matrix of our asphalt production.

Our Route 8 plant will soon have a change in its energy matrix, which will put the avant -garde in the production of sustainable asphalt. The new biomass boiler is already in the test stage, and its incorporation into the production line will generate great benefits for the company and the environment.

The new energy generation process based on biomass will allow us to practically eliminate the use of fossil fuels in the plant, which represents a great saving of resources and an environmentally sustainable solution by valuing the containers that are generated in our production line.

This innovation in our production process adds to other measures aimed at reducing the environmental impact and incorporating the concepts of sustainability to asphalt production.

WE CELEBRATE TOGETHER!!!

2024, Your Route is My Route.

The year that ends was not just another in BITAFAL. A year full of challenges, participation in major road works, innovations and projects for the future. It was also a year of participation in the academic world, action in the community and a strong commitment to sustainability.

For all these reasons, we decided to close the year as we started it: all together, happy for what we experienced and excited about what is to come. To celebrate, we organized a party with our entire team, which we called Your Route is My Route

A party that made us go through all the climates: joy, reflection, gifts and a lot of emotion. And like any gathering of friends, music and fun were present with the band Vi-Em live.
