Warm mixtures with modified asphalt AM3 and AM2 Max show important technical and environmental benefits

Two new test sections using AM3 Max and AM2 Max modified asphalt were carried out during the month of December showing excellent results.

On the one hand, a stretch of rolling folder was made with modified AM3 Max asphalt in the F10 discontinuous mixture that is being applied in the duplication of Route 9 by the Traxpalco company. The results were a temperature decrease of 40 ° C with an important savings of fuel oil, reduction of fumes and gases in more than 10 times and a compaction just like in the hot mixture.

With AM2 Max modified asphalt, more than 500 mixture ton were made in the folder applied in the construction of Route 6 by the CVC company with equally encouraging results. A 40 ° C reduction, improvements in air quality and safety for operators and better densification of the mixture as main results obtained.

The benefits are more than proven in the various trial sections carried out in our country. More works are approaching in the coming months confirming that this technology is beginning to consolidate in Uruguay.

New Road Pliego

New Road Pliego

5 chapters that review much of road construction techniques in our country are already available.

On December 9, the Minister of the Minister, José Luis Falero, and the Director of Roads, Hernán Ciganda, the new sections of the statement of roads that have been updated:

Section 4 - Asphalt risks
Section 5 - Asphalt treatments
Section 6 - Folders and hot asphalt mixtures
Section 7 - Activities prior to flexible pavement rehabilitation
Section 8 - Concrete pavements

Within the framework of an institutional strengthening process in which the National Road Directorate has been working together with the IDB, the update of the specifications for the construction of bridges and roads was updated, a document dating from 1989, regulated the following year in Decree Nº9/990, and modified in the years 2001 and 2003.

All this documentation determines the technical specifications that govern all the works of the DNV and includes: the project, the construction and maintenance of the works, and the materials to be used.

The update was carried out with the support of specialist consultants in each thematic area, who evaluated and analyzed the proposals to advise the DNV on the elaboration of the specifications. The documents were prepared section by section according to the area, and the drafts were made available to the different actors in the road sector, to receive suggestions or modification proposals.

SUSTAINABILITY

SUSTAINABILITY

New biomass boiler transforms the energy matrix of our asphalt production.

Our Route 8 plant will soon have a change in its energy matrix, which will put the avant -garde in the production of sustainable asphalt. The new biomass boiler is already in the test stage, and its incorporation into the production line will generate great benefits for the company and the environment.

The new energy generation process based on biomass will allow us to practically eliminate the use of fossil fuels in the plant, which represents a great saving of resources and an environmentally sustainable solution by valuing the containers that are generated in our production line.

This innovation in our production process adds to other measures aimed at reducing the environmental impact and incorporating the concepts of sustainability to asphalt production.

VALENCIA HURTS US

Climate change and its impact on roads

The images shocked us all. In a few hours, tragedy took hold of the Valencian community. The formation of an Isolated Depression at High Levels (DANA) generated an unprecedented volume of precipitation, dumping the equivalent of a year's rain on the area in a few hours.

The human toll is the most terrible; More than 200 people lost their lives. The material losses are incalculable at the moment. And the damage to the road infrastructure will require very rapid actions to be able to reestablish circulation in several areas, with highways cut off, highways and roads seriously affected, and an entire mobility network collapsed.

Climate change is a reality that increasingly affects the daily lives of populations in different parts of the planet. The actions taken aimed at sustainability are key to being able to mitigate its impact and begin to generate a new reality, which will undoubtedly take many years to be reflected in a recovery of the environmental quality that we had not long ago.

And what does the road industry have to do in that sense? A lot.

The construction of road infrastructure as a segment within the civil engineering sector has been taking giant steps in the incorporation of techniques and procedures that reduce environmental impact and that can save great costs for governments and the entire planet.

The recycling of asphalt, a material that can be reused infinite times, the reduction of temperatures in the application of asphalt through the use of warm mixtures, the use of modified asphalt that is specially designed to resist extreme temperatures, both cold and hot, The use of water-based asphalt emulsions and the incorporation of waste from other industries that are difficult to recycle, such as rubber or glass, are just some of the measures that can be quickly implemented to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, temperatures used in the production and laying processes and the impact on quarry materials.

National authorities, universities, students and, above all, members of the industry must become aware that what hurts us today in Valencia will surely be a repeated phenomenon in other parts of the planet. And that the decision to change is in our hands.

PRESENT AT THE ELECTRIC MOBILITY EXPO

PRESENT AT THE ELECTRIC MOBILITY EXPO

With the first electric truck in Latin America

The incorporation of the first 100% heavy electric truck to our transport fleet has been a novelty and an example for the entire cargo transport sector in our country. That is why we were invited to participate in the first Electric Mobility Expo organized by the Ministry of Industry, Energy and Mining on the grounds of the Maroñas National Racecourse.

Over the course of two days, thousands of visitors were able to get up close and personal with the imposing dimensions of our unit, inquiring about its features, its load capacity and its autonomy, among other aspects. To do this, in addition to having an explanatory video of all the technical details, we have the invaluable contribution of our designated driver Andrea Ballarres, who proved to be an expert in handling the equipment and also a great representative of BITAFAL regarding the requirements of visitors to the event.

The exhibition also constituted a forum to exchange on the advances of electric mobility in Uruguay and the challenges that lie ahead. In that instance, our Technical Director Santiago Kröger participated in the panel “Voices on the road: the experience of users in the territory”, presenting our experience, the first results obtained and the results to national authorities, business representatives and the media. specific charging infrastructure needs that heavy electric trucks require, thinking about extending their radius of action in the interior of the country.

The Electric Mobility Expo was an excellent opportunity to demonstrate with facts the great commitment to sustainability of our company, the commitment to reducing emissions and caring for the environment.
