THE WORKS CONTINUE THROUGHOUT THE COUNTRY

THE WORKS CONTINUE THROUGHOUT THE COUNTRY

We share a summary of the latest construction inaugurations during the past summer

Route 8 and 11 interchange

The MTOP continues to bet heavily on investment in roads and bridges. The results are in sight and the inaugurations bear witness to that commitment. We share some of those made during the summer season.
In December, the new interchange on Route 8 and 11 was inaugurated together with the doubling of the road in the Route 11 section and the Soca Toll by the company COLIER S.A. The works continue to Route 9 and its inauguration is expected by the end of this year. The qualification of this new section of the double track of Route 8 will work as an alternative for the traffic that goes to the East of the country, thus relieving the Interbalnearia Route. Grupo BITAFAL supplied the conventional and modified asphalts as well as the emulsions for a large part of this work.

Double track on Route 3

Also in December, 25 kilometers of double track were inaugurated on Route 3, between Routes 1 and 11, part of the Grupo San José PPP that is carrying out the work. A total of approximately 142,000 tons of asphalt mix were executed with the highest laying technology, achieving an IRI of less than 1 throughout the section, being the work with the best result obtained in said parameter. Grupo BITAFAL participated in the project by supplying the modified asphalts for the execution of said sections.

Centenary Bridge

In January the Centennial Bridge was inaugurated with the presence of the President of the Republic. The bridge built by SACEEM S.A. It is 550 meters long, made up of 22 25-meter sections over the Río Negro and was built simultaneously with the north and south accesses of Route 5, as well as the interchange to the UPM plant with an investment of 11 million dollars. . Grupo BITAFAL supplied the anchored joints of said bridge as well as the asphalt products that make up the road surface.
Subsequently, the inauguration of Routes 43 and 59 was carried out, which are part of the mesh around the forest area that will supply wood for the new UPM plant and that will receive a lot of vehicle traffic once the new Picada Oribe Bridge is enabled. In all these works Grupo BITAFAL assists with asphalt emulsions for their correct execution.

By Pass Ruta 6 y 14

In February, the Bypass was inaugurated at the intersection of routes 6 and 14 towards Sarandí del Yí, culminating with the works of the PPP CV3 of route 14 that go from the city of Mercedes to Sarandí del Yí and that we had the pleasure of supplying. all modified asphalts and emulsions for its construction.
The By Pass to Sarandí del Yí, was drawn up in elevation in order to guarantee that the entire stretch will not be flooded, preventing the town from being cut off.
We thank all the companies that trust us to solve the supply of special asphalts in their works.
BITASEAL AT THE RIVERA AUTODROME

BITASEAL AT THE RIVERA AUTODROME

The Bitaseal prevents the detachment of aggregates, seals the surface and provides an adequate macrotexture for a track with high demands.

The Intendance of Rivera completed the planned interventions on the Eduardo P. Cabrera International Raceway which has a total extension of 3,080 m.
The test sections executed last year, as we reported in our Bulletin No. 139, withstood the demands of national races and various dates of the Brazilian championship with success, for which it was applied to the entire track last February.
We share some images where you can see the quality of the work carried out, ensuring a waterproofing and homogenization of the surface as well as better performance in terms of slip resistance. In addition, the process of deterioration of the asphalt folders due to detachment of the coarse aggregate is stopped.
Through the self-propelled equipment that we specially designed for this product, it is possible to achieve yields of over 8,000 m2 per day. With good weather, the product cures in a few hours and it is feasible to enable traffic in the same day.

TOWARDS SUSTAINABILITY IN OUR OPERATIONS

TOWARDS SUSTAINABILITY IN OUR OPERATIONS

Our goal of being an increasingly sustainable company gains strength with the changes we are implementing.

With the inauguration of the photovoltaic solar energy generation plants last year, we began the path of electrifying our operations and we anticipate an expansion of the generation park for this year.
We already have the first thermal fluid boiler that will allow us to reduce the consumption of fossil fuels and there are two more on the way to consolidate the objective. At the same time, we are incorporating electric vehicles into our utility fleet together with high-efficiency chargers to take advantage of the energy generated.
By the end of this year, we hope to double the photovoltaic solar power generation capacity at both plants and thus meet our energy efficiency and sustainability goal.
ROAD TO RENEWABLE ENERGY

ROAD TO RENEWABLE ENERGY

We inaugurated two photovoltaic plants with a total power of 165 kW

During the month of November, the photovoltaic solar energy plants of our Colonia Nicolich and Barros Blancos units were commissioned. With the aim of reducing dependence on fossil fuels as well as meeting a series of milestones that we have set ourselves to change the energy matrix of our manufacturing operations.

During 2023 we expect to have an expansion of these generation plants as well as the incorporation of biomass boilers and other investments that will allow us to reduce the consumption of Fuel Oil by 50%.

INAUGURATION OF THE INTERCHANGER ON ROUTE 5

INAUGURATION OF THE INTERCHANGER ON ROUTE 5

The work will allow this route to be crossed on a double track and elevated above the Eduardo Pérez road

Hernandez and Gonzalez S.A. built the work that includes two viaducts 17 meters long each; more than 2000m of metal containment systems and more than 600m of rigid concrete fenders, with impact terminals for maximum protection, to prevent derailments and lighting of all components with the latest generation LED technology. The road solution for the crossing also required the construction of a new double track bridge over the Arroyo Pantanoso.

The President of the Republic, Luis Lacalle Pou, the Minister of Transport, José Luis Falero and the Mayor of Montevideo, Carolina Cosse, participated in the inauguration of this interchange. The Minister announced that "Here especially we are working on the point of tendering, before the end of the year, the continuation of the perimeter up to Route 1. We have also incorporated the Pérez road into this CREMAF contract, because we believe that it is a more than convenient access for all those producers who come from the coast.”

After the inauguration, a dinner was held to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the company and where a tribute was paid to Mr. Omar Hernández, Director of the company.

INAUGURATION OF THE PORT VIADUCT

INAUGURATION OF THE PORT VIADUCT

The three-year work will change the dynamics of the Port of Montevideo and surroundings

On December 12, under torrential rain, the inauguration of the Rambla Portuaria Viaduct took place with the presence of the President of the Republic, the Minister of Transport and Public Works, senior authorities of the MTOP and other State agencies as well as the entire SACEEM-GRINOR team, responsible for the project.
The work consisted of a 1,800 m long viaduct, with two main access ramps and a 160 m long arched bridge that separates the vehicular crossing, on the port boulevard, with the Central Railroad track. In addition, various annexed works were carried out in the entrance area to the Port of Montevideo, improving circulation and expanding the Port area by 9 hectares with an investment of 156 million dollars.
“The largest urban project in Uruguay”, as stated by the Executive Director of Saceem, Alejandro Ruibal, has three lanes in each direction that increase circulation capacity at that point and significantly reduce travel times. The rolling of the viaduct was carried out using a system with a sand-asphalt layer that allowed the structure to be regularized and waterproofed, and then a good macrotexture type F10 rolling layer to improve safety. Both mixtures were executed with modified asphalt BITAFLEX AM3.
Another peculiarity of the tread are the anchored neoprene joints that support the large movements of the structure without affecting the quality of walking on the viaduct. Grupo BITAFAL thanks the companies for their trust in the supply of modified asphalts as well as neoprene anchored joints.
XXI CILA IN URUGUAY

XXI CILA IN URUGUAY

The most important event in the Spanish-speaking world of asphalt passed through Uruguay from November 20 to 25

We had the pleasure of receiving more than 1,000 participants from 25 countries at the Enjoy Punta del Este Hotel Convention Center in what was the largest CILA held to date.
With great pride we tell you that the positive comments about the event have not stopped coming, both about the organization and the technical part, about the commercial exhibition as well as about the social events.
The Congress was held in conjunction with the 13th Uruguayan Highway Congress, which had a high level of technical work and participation as well.
The nearly 300 technical papers and 6 magisterial conferences were presented simultaneously in the 3 rooms that we can assure were always very complete.
We highlight the level of the master conferences and the exhibitors who had the courtesy to participate in the event and tell us in detail about their areas of specialization related to the Circular Economy, the motto of this Congress.
A highlight of the event were the simultaneous conferences that were held in a room with 7 screens and headphones for the participants that allowed the presentations to be heard correctly and gave flexibility to see many works in a short space of time. An experience that we believe should be repeated in future CILAs.
Another differential were the Commercial Conferences, which were always in a full room, by renowned companies such as KRATON, BASF, CIRTEC, INGEVITY and BITAFAL, which had their space to present the trends that drive the asphalt industry.

The commercial exhibition, which had an area of more than 4000 m2 between indoor and outdoor spaces, was attended by 50 exhibiting companies that showed the latest advances in equipment, products and services related to the road sector. In particular, the commercial exhibition had more than 30 pieces of equipment, several of them large and that showed a high level of technology. In addition, the giant screen to watch the World Cup matches made the Montecarlo room a meeting point and emotions throughout the week.

The social activities were really the highlight of several participants compared to the Congress level. The opening and inauguration Cocktail of the Commercial Exhibition on Monday, a soccer match on the beach to experience the World Cup atmosphere, the integration day at MACA on Wednesday and the closing lunch on Friday that was overflowing with people since more than 600 people were still at the Closing Ceremony of the XXI CILA.

The BITAFAL Group, as a diamond sponsor of the Congress, had one of the main stands in the Foyer that was really full of people and was present at the outdoor Expo with double spreaders and other equipment.

We present three technical papers in the plenary room and one technical paper in a simultaneous room. On Monday the 21st we present “SAMI MEMBRANE PERFORMANCE AFTER 11 YEARS”, “SEAL COAT WITH GLASS POWDER TO IMPROVE SLIP RESISTANCE” and “USE OF DSR FOR QUALITY CONTROL OF EMULSIONS”. On Tuesday 22 on the "EVALUATION OF THE FIRST SECTION WITH TIRE DUST FROM URUGUAY" and on Thursday we presented on "EVALUATION OF THERMAL ADHERENT EMULSIONS WITH DSR".

A big thank you to all those who have participated in it in all modalities, exhibitors, speakers, participants, organizers, onlookers, friends and family, we hope to meet you all again in the next edition to be held in Seville in 2024.

THE CIRCULAR ECONOMY, AXIS OF THE XXI CILA

THE CIRCULAR ECONOMY, AXIS OF THE XXI CILA

More than 60% of the works that will be presented have the circular economy as their axis

The outstanding topics are the rejuvenation and recycling of pavements, the use of waste from other industries, the use of low-temperature techniques, among others. That is why the master conferences will be focused on these important issues in a sector highly committed to caring for the environment.

We will have the pleasure of knowing first-hand how countries like Australia and New Zealand base their road management strategy on pavement recycling and surface treatments with Eng. Steve Patrick from the Australian Road Research Board, author of the “Austroads Guide for Pavement Technology Part 4K: Bituminous Irrigation”, which is used as a design and selection guide throughout Australia.

In turn, the commercial exhibition will have the presence of leaders in the industry both in the recycling of pavements and additives and products for a more sustainable road construction.
