BITAFAL GROUP AT THE INTERNATIONAL ASPHALT RUBBER CONGRESS

BITAFAL GROUP AT THE INTERNATIONAL ASPHALT RUBBER CONGRESS

We participated in the international congress on asphalt rubber in Malaga, Spain and we learned more on the technology of pre-treated and activated tire powder (RARx)

From June 26 to 29, we were present at the Rubberized Asphalt and Asphalt Rubber (RAR2022) congress held at the Palacio de Congresos in the beautiful city of Malaga. The congress was attended by technicians of the highest level, such as the Nobel Prize winner Kevin Trenberth, and prominent academics such as John Harvey PhD and Peter Sebaaly PhD, among others.

We learned about the latest advances in rubber asphalt technology, especially that achieved by CIRTEC with its RARx product, a product manufactured from NFU (out-of-use tire) powder pretreated with bitumen and other additives of mineral origin. The RARx represents an evolution of the existing technologies to date for incorporating rubber powder as it guarantees the final quality of the mixture and the complete digestion of the rubber powder particles, avoiding the incorporation problems (dry and wet route).

The product is incorporated into the mixture production process as an additive or fine aggregate (dry route) directly into the mixing drum, obtaining a high-performance modified asphalt, resistant to cracks and rutting.

Additionally, we were invited by CIRTEC to witness the manufacturing process of the mixture with the Garrucho company in Puerto Santa María, and finally the laying of the mixture in the city of Chiclana de la Frontera (Andalusia). No problems of any kind were observed, the mixture was made at 170°C, it was moved to the site where it was laid with a Vogele in thicknesses of between 6 and 8 cm, and finally compacted with smooth and then pneumatic as usual. In the images you can see the final quality obtained.

We thank Miguel Angel Sánz from CIRTEC for the kind attention received, and Pedro, Alejandro and Manuel who kindly allowed us to tour the facilities of their asphalt plant.

We will continue studying this innovative product and we will keep you informed about the pilot section that we will carry out in Uruguay.

RIVERA TRACK REJUVENATION

RIVERA TRACK REJUVENATION

Much of the track has been rejuvenated with the Bitaseal product

The Municipality of Rivera has validated the use of the BITASEAL on the largest motorsport track in the north of the country, andl Autódromo Internacional Eduardo P. Cabrera. The first tests were carried out last year with very good performance, so it was decided to rejuvenate an important sector of the track such as the main straight, as well as several curves.

It has a total extension of 3,080 m and a short version of 2,100 m with a 7 cm asphalt layer dating from 2012 and which presents a high level of loosening of aggregates, which are a major problem in the safety of the racetrack.

Bitaseal prevents the loosening of aggregates, seals the surface and provides a macrotexture suitable for a high-demand track. Furthermore, its homogeneous black color improves the aesthetics of the court and achieves an excellent contrast with the horizontal demarcation.

The track is a pole of attraction not only for Uruguayan races, but also as a location for international championships, and several dates in Brazil are even run on said racetrack.

We thank the Municipality of Rivera for the trust placed in our products.

WORKS IMPROVE QUALITY AND SAFETY IN RÍO NEGRO ROUTES

WORKS IMPROVE QUALITY AND SAFETY IN RÍO NEGRO ROUTES

Construction of the roundabout linking Routes 2 and 24 will be completed by the end of June. Works begin in September to improve the quality of route 25.

The roundabout being built at the intersection of Routes 2 and 24, in a place known as La Víbora, near Fray Bentos, will improve safety conditions at this "dangerous intersection, which has cost many lives." This was stated by Minister José Luis Falero, during his visit to the department of Río Negro.

Likewise, Falero reported that works will begin in September to raise the quality standard of Route 25, which joins Routes 3 and 24. The intervention will be carried out on a 25-kilometer stretch and will require an investment of 22 million dollars.

Another important work in Río Negro is the one carried out on Route 20, which joins Routes 5 and 24. In this way it will become a new transversal, like Routes 14 and 26, and will facilitate circulation throughout the territory. without having to go south. Currently, a new section of about 30 kilometers is being built, which expands the national road heritage.

INVESTMENT IN ACCESS TO THE ARAPEY TERMS EXCEEDS $120 MILLION

INVESTMENT IN ACCESS TO THE ARAPEY TERMS EXCEEDS $120 MILLION

The funds come mostly from the Inter-American Development Bank, together with resources from the national government and the departmental government.

Repair works began on the access road to the Arapey hot springs, in charge of the national capital construction company. The execution will last nine months and involves an investment of $122 million, about US$3 million.

The access road to the Arapey hot springs, which includes 19 kilometers between Route 3 and the thermal park, but which also leads visitors to the two 5-star hotels located there, was deteriorated for many years, generating innumerable complaints from tourists and private operators who clamored for a solution in this regard. Several traffic accidents, vehicle breakages and problems of all kinds have been generated in all this time, causing a disincentive for visitors who demanded so much for its repair.

Lima confirmed that, once the work is finished, heavy traffic will not be able to travel along that road, but must do so along the parallel rural road that leads to Route 3, at the access point to Pueblo Belén, a measure that aims to give the work a longer useful life.

MTOP IS REDESIGNING THE ROAD INFRASTRUCTURE THAT THE COUNTRY NEEDS

MTOP IS REDESIGNING THE ROAD INFRASTRUCTURE THAT THE COUNTRY NEEDS

With record investment in highways in the period, the aim is to raise the quality

"We have defined a strategy for improvements throughout the national road network, in the more than eight thousand kilometers of national jurisdiction that our country has," said Minister Falero. Among them, he highlighted the double track of route 5 from Canelones to Durazno, the double track of routes 8 and 9 that will link Montevideo with Rocha, works on route 6 to route 26, route 14 that will join Mercedes with Lascano, route 20 that will connect route 5 with route 3 and the continuation of route 102 (Perimetral) to route 1.

The chief of Transportation mentioned that the road construction process has been improving, and that is what the administration points to. "We are going to focus on quality works, even if we have to do two kilometers less... A stabilized cement and portland gives greater consistency to the base and allows it to have greater durability," he assured regarding national routes.

Bitafal Group: its 38 years of history

Bitafal Group: its 38 years of history

A company that has reinvented itself over the years

We came to the petrochemical industry because we have been linked to the chemical industry all our lives. My father, a great innovator, and my mother, always pushing together with him, instilled in the 4 brothers the idea that “everything can be done”.

It was 1983, we had just had two small companies in the area of additives for water and fuel treatment. Then we went to the beverage industry with lubricants for transporting bottles and after that we began to produce "foam", the foam for washing bread in refrigerators.

One day, with a small laboratory and a lot of enthusiasm, we received from Don Heber González, owner of Colier and a great friend, a sample of a product to stabilize routes. He was the visionary who trusted and pushed us to enter this world. This fact was the trigger and what motivated us to internalize ourselves about the road world. At that time we did not know how to do it, so my concern led me to travel to Buenos Aires and contact the best asphalt emulsion makers. We tried to obtain the representation of Química Bonaerense, a brand that was not exploited here in Uruguay.

In the beginning we imported emulsions and with these we did the first works, for example the shoulders of the double lane of the Interbalnearia route in 1996, as well as the bullring of the Rural del Prado, Route 56 and a piece of Route 7. In At a certain moment, the importation from Argentina ended due to price problems, so we decided to bring the first emulsification equipment to Uruguay and we began to manufacture the first emulsions here, which of course have a great difference with what they are today.

Throughout these years we have traveled a lot, we have learned from the best and above all from our own works. For me, innovation is that: a continuous dynamic of thought where one has to always be several steps ahead projecting what our client is going to want in order to direct the effort towards it and thus be able to change destinations, because innovative thinking makes the destiny of things, of people, of forms is changed.

This company is innovative because we have always sucked it up and the 38 years that we have over us have allowed us to continue progressing thanks to being immersed in this continuous dynamic of innovation.

Having gone through so many areas made us learn a lot, and always in search of something new.

We are proud to have always had a team of people who are aligned and infected with our spirit. Thanks to them and the clients who trusted us, we got to where we are.

Thank you all very much and may it be for many more years.

FIRST RECYCLING OF PAVEMENTS MADE IN PLANT WITH FOAMED ASPHALT

FIRST RECYCLING OF PAVEMENTS MADE IN PLANT WITH FOAMED ASPHALT

The new technology is being implemented by the company CVC in the PPP Circuit 6 project

The designed structural package includes a stabilized base with foamed asphalt and an asphalt road surface with modified asphalt type PG 70-28 in different thicknesses as required by each section of the project. The particularity of this work is that a material stabilized with foam asphalt is used, produced in a WIRTGEN KMA 220 fixed plant with material extracted from the Route itself and with the addition of virgin material to comply with the specification of a BSM 1 according to the TG specification. -2 from South Africa.

Once the material is mixed at the plant, it is transferred to the construction site and laid by means of a sequence of two pavers and compactors to achieve the project thicknesses and adequate design densities. Between each paver a padfoot compactor enters and after the last layer a pair of tandem and pneumatic compactors give the appropriate density and surface finish.
Subsequently, a protective irrigation with emulsion is applied IRRIGATION BITAFAL 65 which remains open to traffic until the execution of a semi-dense mix made with asphalt modified with polymers of the type PG 70-28.
Stabilized with foamed asphalt has the particularity that it is a semi-bound granular material, so the failure method is rutting and not fatigue. Therefore, once the pavement reaches a rut of 10mm, the existing mixture is milled and the same thickness is replaced and it is ready to continue supporting loads.
The Circuit 6 project involves the rehabilitation of 78 km of National Route No. 6 and includes the duplication of roads in several sections, the widening and rehabilitation of the existing pavement structures, which must be maintained for 20 years by the concessionaire company. Big Blade Consortium. Several sections are made with the aforementioned technology and other sections are made by in situ recycling with foamed asphalt.
We are grateful to the company for the trust provided for the supply of emulsions and modified asphalts for your project.
We hope that this new technology will have an exponential development in our country.
CAPE SEAL ON ROUTE 27

CAPE SEAL ON ROUTE 27

A new rehabilitation of a route of our road network with pavement recycling and Cape Seal

The GRINOR company began the rehabilitation works of 48 km on Route 27, Mr. Mario Heber, in the Department of Rivera. They started with a base surcharge, recycled in 20 cm with Portland cement and then a Cape Seal as a rolling layer. The progress at the moment is almost the entire recharged section, and about 6 km with the surface treatment on the recycled material where the company has been able to demonstrate the surface quality both in rolling comfort as well as in the resistant structure achieved.

The surcharge made is 15 cm, after which it is remixed in 20 cm together with the old existing surface treatment on the road. The refining works after recycling with cement are carried out by means of a motor grader with automatic control, then a curing irrigation with emulsion is carried out. IRRIGATION BITAFAL 65 along with sand to provide a suitable provisional rolling and maintain the humidity of the cemented material, until the execution of the micro-surfacing.

Simple bituminous treatment is being carried out with emulsion BITAFLEX IRRIGATION 65 P12 with 15-19 mm aggregate to then complete the Cape Seal using a cold microagglomerate made with emulsion BITAFLEX MICRO 62 P40. This last emulsion was formulated specifically for this work, adjusting the cutting times and increasing the polymer content since it is the emulsion exposed to traffic and weather.
The execution activities of the Cape Seal will be suspended during the winter closure, and it is planned to continue and finish them next spring.

GRINOR incorporated a new truck-mounted Romanelli UHR 700 unit with a capacity of 7 m3 of aggregates and 2,600 liters of emulsion for the execution of these works, which is producing an impeccable quality of cold microagglomerate.

The synergy between the recycling of pavements and the Cape Seal is increasingly convincing since the first sections carried out are still in excellent condition and without inconveniences of exudations or detachments that have often led to doubts about surface treatments such as wearing courses.
We hope that the successes of this technology will continue throughout our country.

CONFERENCE ON SURFACE TREATMENTS AT THE QUIMIKAO CONGRESS (MEXICO)

CONFERENCE ON SURFACE TREATMENTS AT THE QUIMIKAO CONGRESS (MEXICO)

We tell you about our participation in the 12th International QuimiKao Seminar in Los Cabos.

From May 17 to 20, 2022, we participated in the biannual event developed by the QuimiKao company, on this occasion as exhibitors, where we emphasized the transformation process that our country is experiencing at the level of road infrastructure. The magnificent synergy experienced by stabilized bases and surface treatments was commented on, where one needs the other for a greater extension of the useful life of the road.

They commented on the great growth experienced by recycling and on-site stabilization teams in Uruguay, where we went from 0 to more than 30 teams in just 8 years, improving the quality of more than 2,500 kilometers of highways. This fact has marked a milestone at the national and regional level, which today allows us to apply surface treatments with a higher degree of certainty in terms of life expectancy. We also commented on the change process that Grupo Bitafal began towards emulsion performance specifications (EPG), which allow us to choose the level of polymerization of the emulsion for a given traffic and climate.

The seminar also had its deserved share of relaxation and integration, where we shared a morning soccer game and a day of walking around Cabo San Lucas. We thank the entire QuimiKao team for their generosity, their hospitality and for giving us the opportunity to spread the innumerable advantages that surface treatments present; and finally congratulate you for the successful completion of the seminar. We hope to see each other in future editions to continue learning together.
