The synergy between recycled cement and surface treatments show that a route can be rehabilitated at low cost with high performance and quality

Last January 28 The official inauguration of the works took place at the intersection of both routes, in front of Manantiales beach. As we discussed in the Bulletin # 118, the works on Route 104 consisted of cleaning the strip and deepening the gutters as well as the surcharge of between 15 and 20 cm of roughness that was recycled with cement along with the old existing bituminous treatment.

To control cracking, transverse cuts were made with emulsion IRRIGATION BITAFAL 65 with a team specially designed for it. The curing irrigation was carried out with Emulsion IRRIGATION BITAFAL 65 and crushing sand providing excellent adherence and a very good performance as protection of the stabilized base.
Finally, the Capeseal type paving was carried out with a simple bituminous treatment with emulsion. IRRIGATION BITAFLEX 65 P40 and a cold micro-agglomerate with emulsion BITAFLEX MICRO 62 P25
A roundabout was made at a black point on the route and all the signage was renewed by applying highly durable thermoplastic paint, studs and highly reflective signage.
The section of Route 10 from 104 to the entrance to José Ignacio was recycled in 15 cm with Portland cement and then Capeseal as a tread layer.
Both routes achieved an improvement in roughness and slip resistance, as well as a finish similar to asphalt pavement with great contrast to the signage, which translates into improvements in road safety. In addition, an important structural improvement was made that will allow a high durability of the rehabilitated sections.

SEMINAR: IMPROVEMENT AND REHABILITATION OF RURAL ROADS

The Ruta 7 Foundation together with the Faculty of Engineering and with the support of the Congress of Mayors and the CURE organized a Seminar on the advances of methodologies and techniques for the improvement and rehabilitation of rural roads on November 17.

It was held at the new headquarters of the CURE (Eastern Regional University Center) in the city of Treinta y Tres and in which various technicians from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul, the Faculty of Engineering, and Fundación Ruta 7, consultants and Construction Directors of various Departmental Governments.
The topics covered ranged from the design of pavements with low traffic volume, stabilization with hydraulic binders such as lime, ash and Portland cement to the experiences gathered in regional events such as the 1st Argentine Congress of Rural Roads and the Basic Roads Course held in Chile.
More than 60 technicians from Municipalities, Roads, companies and the University participated in the seminar.
At the end of it, an interesting exchange was made between those present on how the stabilization techniques with cement still do not enter the range of possibilities for rural roads despite the incorporation of technology at the national level and how it should be done so that it is done. reality.

What we have learned we must communicate why We participate in conferences and seminars at national and regional level.

4) We continue to learn to apply in UruguayAs we reported in the last edition of "Making Roads" we learn from the Kiwis who have already worked hard to seek durable and economical solutions. One of our technicians will participate in a course Surface Treatment in New Zealand and now we plan to bring South African technicians to continue the dissemination of successful experiences in the world.

5) We continue warning the political actors about the risks of "new" soil stabilization techniques with chemical or biological products. Se realizaron charlas técnicas sobre las propiedades y comportamiento de materiales estabilizados con asfalto espumado (BSM – Bitumen Stabilized Material) y un taller sobre asfalto espumado y materiales BSM en el impresionante laboratorio central de la concesionaria CCR Nova Dutra.

Esta tecnología es ideal para tramos exigidos como el existente entre San Pablo y Guarulhos que cuenta con más de 200.000 vehículos por día (la mayoría de ellos camiones y ómnibus) tanto por la resistencia del BSM como por la velocidad de ejecución, que se realiza en unas cinco horas únicamente durante la noche. Por otra partes es una tecnología económica y sustentable ya que utiliza el material de base y asfalto existente, 1% del cemento y un 2% de asfalto espumado solamente.

The first sections of pavement recycling foamed bitumen are a reality and are projected as an economic and sustainable solution for the rehabilitation of roads.
